Are there any benefits to using a Cover Story?

As every parent finds out fast, babies watch what’s in your hands, and what you’re giving your attention to. Developmental researchers have found the same. Infants pay closer attention to whatever an adult is looking at, and by around their first birthday they start copying what they see adults do with objects. We’d rather that object be a book.

Will it fit my phone?

It fits most smartphones, up to the size of an iPhone 17 Pro Max, even with a normal-thickness case on. A spring clamp inside grips your phone snugly while you use it, holding anything up to 3-3/16 inches wide and 7/8 inch thick. And since it skips MagSafe, you can keep your wallet, grip, or other attachment on the back. There are a few exceptions, like extremely wide phones or folding phones when unfolded. A very thick or rugged case can also push even an iPhone 17 Pro Max past the limit, so if yours is on the chunky side, measure it with the case on to be sure it comes in under 3-3/16 inches wide and 7/8 inch thick.

What are the dimensions?

It stands 7-7/8 inches tall, 5-1/2 inches wide, and 1-1/8 inches thick. About the size of a slim hardcover novel, so it sits right at home on the coffee table.

Yes. There’s a port cutout at the bottom, so you can plug in and keep charging while you use it.

Yes. It holds your phone, so you use it exactly as you do now. It stays in your hand, just dressed as a book.

What is it made of?

Inside, both editions are the same: an ABS plastic housing with a spring clamp that holds your phone, and a magnet that keeps the front cover shut. ABS is the safe, non-toxic plastic that LEGO bricks are made from, so it holds up around little ones. The outside is where they differ. Newborn is bound in paper and printed with food-grade, non-toxic ink. Classic is bound in linen.

Which edition should I choose?

It depends on your child’s age. Newborn is bold and high-contrast, with colors and shapes that pop for a baby just learning to see. Classic is a grown-up cover, boring enough that curious older kids are less likely to come over to see what you’re looking at, and it stays useful from the grabby, into-everything stage onward.
